of Leigh Day Solicitors will be in conversation with

Jovan Owusu-Nepaul 2024 Labour Party candidate for Clacton against Nigel Farage MP of the Reform Party. This panel of young people will examine whether we have reached a post Black Lives Matter zenith in the UK, and if so, how do generation Z navigate their hopes, aspirations and futures in this new reality.

Dianne Abbott MP, Britain’s first Black woman MP and in 2024 the longest serving woman in parliament, will be in conversation with Marcia Mascoll, journalist and TV producer, about Dianne’s parliamentary career and her recently launched autobiography: A Woman Like Me.

Opening Overview

Frances Swaine, Lawyer, recipient of an honorary doctorate for work on social justice campaigns and Director of Voices of Windrush Festival.


Art

Zita Holbourne, a multidisciplinary artist and human rights activist will showcase and explain her collection from a recent month-long residence at the Santa Fe Institute of Art, New Mexico. Using the theme of sovereignty to document the Windrush scandal, her creation includes a large scale illustrated timeline of the Windrush scandal, its links to colonialism, her personal involvement in the campaign for justice, and an exploration of the racism faced by the Windrush Generation with the scandal at its core.


Spoken Word

Realitie, a spoken word artist, will be keeping it real on life related issues.


The 2nd Voices of Windrush Lecture

Following on from Martin Forde KC’s brilliant

Voices of Windrush Lecture 2023, we’re delighted that Professor Gus John will deliver the Voices of Windrush Lecture 2024. Professor John, an academic, writer and campaigner for rights in education, will deliver a lecture entitled, “Race and the State We Are In.” Following on from the UK race riots this summer, Professor John will explore the implications and ramifications for Black people in Britain, and how these times are to be navigated.
